קורס "פיסול עם ילדים בחינוך וולדורף" עם רודולף קייסבך ---- Course "Sculpture with Children in Waldorf Education" with Rudolf Kaesbach

In the beginning of April the Artways Center hosted the Sculptor and Educator Rudolf Kaesbach from Emerson College in England. He conducted three workshops on pedagogical sculpture, two of which (on the theme of teaching sculpture to children in lower school - grade 1 - 8) took place at Urim School in Ramat Hasharon. The third course took place in our workshops in Harduf and focused on teaching sculpture to upper school children (grade 9 - 12).

בתחילת אפריל מרכז דרך האמנות אירח את הפסל ומורה וולדורף רודול קייסבך מאמרסוםן קולג' באנגליה. קייסבך לימד שלוש סדנאות על הנושא פיסול עם ילדים, מתוכן שתי סדנאות התארחו בבי"ס אורים בכפר הירוק (בנושא פיסול עם ילדים בבית ספר היסודי - כיתות א' - ח'). הסדנה השלישית התקיימה בסדנאות בהרדוף והתמקדה בנושא של פיסול עם ילדים בבית ספר תיכון (כיתות ט' - י"ב).

Michal Kalmanovich, who is member of the teaching staff at the Artways Center is showing her latest paintings in an exhibition at the "Mishkan Hamila" Gallery in Kibbutz Harduf.

קורס פיסול במתכות - metal sculpture course

תוכנית הלימודים של שנה"ל 2011-12 כוללת קורס פיסול במתכות. הסטודנטים למדו טכניקות בסיסיות של נפחות ושל עבודה במתכת, כגון חיתוך, ריתוך, הלחמה, ריקוע ועוד. בתחלק הראשון של הקורס הסטודנטים עבדו על פסל מברזל, בחלק השני המשימה היא ליצור עבודה מנחושת.

As part of the curriculum of the 2011-2012 academic year students participate in a metal sculpture course. In this course the students learn basic blacksmithing techniques as well as metal processing skills such as cutting, welding, soldering and forming. The first part of the course focusses on iron-sculpture, while in the second part students create a sculpture from copper sheet.

עבודה על פסלי גבס - work on plaster sculptures

בשנת הלימודים 2011-2012 נפתח קורס חדש בשם "לגעת בחומר" - קורס פיסול עם אקסל אוולד. בקורס לומדים מושגי יסוד של אמנות הפיסול ומפסלים במגוון של חומרים וטכניקות.

בשבועות האחרונים הסטודנטים עובדים על פיסלי גבס בטוכניקה של בניה עם רשת ברזל. נקודת המוצא של הפסלים היתה לימוד של עצמות. כל סטודנט בחר עצם או קטע של עצם אשר אותו פיסל בחימר. בהמשך הסטודנטים התבקשו להכין סקיצה בחימר בהשראת האצם. אותו פסל שימש כדגם לפסל הגבס.

In the 2011-2012 academic year we are offering a new sculpture course with Axel Ewald - intitled: "Hands to Materials". In the course students get to know the basic concepts of sculpture and are exposed to a variety of different materials and techniques.

In recent weeks students have been working on plaster sculptures, using the technique of building on a framework of metal netting. We took as a starting point the study of animal bones or bone fragments, which - to start with - the students had to copy in clay. Then the students were asked to create a sculptural sketch in clay - inspired by the bone form - which then served as a model for the plaster sculpture.

כהכנה לפסל הגבס הסטודנטים הכינו שלד מרשת ברזל שעליה בנו את הצורה בבנית שכבות גבס.

As a basis for the plaster sculpture students prepared a framework of wire-netting, on which they then built up several layers of plaster.

אחרי בנית שכבות מספיקות של חומר ניתן לפסל את הצורה בעזרת מגוון של כלים: גרזנים, מפסלות, שופינים ונייר שיוף.

After having built up sufficient thickness of material, the form can be further sculpted by using a variety of different tools: plaster axes, carving knives, rasps and sandpaper.

פרויקט עיצוב סביבתי - כיכר תנועה בהרדוף


מספטמבר 2011 סטודנטים משנה ב', ג' ו-ד' עובדים על פרויקט עיצוב סביבתי. בחרנו כנושא הפרויקט כיכר תנועה בקיבוץ הרדוף. תהליך העיצוב התחיל עם מחקר האתר כולל צילומים, לקחת מדידות, רישומים וראיונות עם תושבים ועובדי היוזמות הצמודות לכיכר. מתוך תוצאות המחקר הגדרנו את משימות הפרויקט וקוים מובילום לעיצוב האמנותי של הכיכר. ביניהם: התיחסות לסביבה, התיחסות לתנועה המעגלית, שימוש בחומרים טבעיים, פיתוח מוטיבים של קהילה, תנועה, מרכז והיקף. במשך 3 שבועות בספטמבר הסטודנטים עבדו על סקיצות ודגמים.

Environmental Design Project - roundabout in Harduf


From the beginning of September 2011 students of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year have been working on an environmental design project. We chose as our project a roundabout in Harduf. We began the project with a study of the site and its environment, including taking measurements, drawings and interviews with people living in the community and coworkers of the neighboring work-places.Based on the summary of this initial research we defined the objectives and guiding principles of our artistic design efforts. Among these we decided to focus on the motifs of turning movement, of center and periphery, and of individual versus community. In the course of 3 weeks the students worked on a number of sketches and models, both two- and three-dimensional.

מתוך מגוון הרחב של דגמים וגישות בחרנו דגם אחד.
אחרי תקופה של חיפוש והזמנת חומרים ביצוע הפרויקט יצא לדרך בדצמבר 2011.

From the wide range of models and approaches we finally chose one model.

After a period of searching for and ordering appropriate materials the realization of the project got going in December 2011.

ביצוע הפרויקט הכיל הנחת הסלעים הגדולים במרכז הכיכר, פיזור והידוק מחלוטה, הנחת חלוקי נחל בתוך בטון, חפירת תעלה והעמדת עמודי עץ, יציקת העמודים בבטון ופיזור אדמה לקראת שתילה. בחלק העבודות השתלבו אנשי הקהילה וילדי ביה"ס וולדורף בהרדוף.

The realization process included placing large boulders in the center of the traffic island, laying river boulders into a bed of concrete, paving with natural flagstones, placing and casting wooden poles in concrete and spreading earth in preparation for planting. In part of the work members of the Harduf community and High School pupils of the Harduf Waldorf School participated.
